Tick Tock Literacy Tip of the Week!

  • Follow a recipe with your child while allowing them to help you cook.

How many cups does Mom need? It says sugar, not salt, Dad! Oh, so many possibilities with a simple recipe. Toddlers can point out letters they know, older children can sound out words like “Buh – utt – er” and parents can finally get a break from all that cooking. Or maybe just some (messy) help.

Plus, kids can use recipes to help memorize their numbers (possibly even learn fractions? One can dream…) and get prepared for this week’s story time on Numbers! But if you’re not much of a cook or baker, you can always download our Story Time Quick Picks Handout sheet for a complete list of songs, books and rhymes all devoted to the noble art of counting.
